Earlier this week I reported that Tim Schafer and Notch were rumored to be discussing a sequel to Psychonauts. In another strange turn of events though, Tim Schafer announced another new project in a new way. Late on February 8th, Tim announced Double Fine is interested in making an adventure game like he did during his days of Monkey Island fame. Instead of searching for publishers, this time he wanted to use Kickstarter and have the public fund the game.

With a goal of $400,000, a miracle for Double Fine has happened. Not only did they meet their goal before the night was out but in less than 24 hours they made $1,000,000. This has broken all Kickstarter records according to Kickstarter themselves. This has sent gamers, publishers and developers in a frenzy about how this has worked so well. All I can say is the involvement of names like Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert, plus the critical acclaim of their previous games, has given them the fan base to do this. Way to go Double Fine!

While there is no release or start dates announced it can be guessed work will begin soon. I will keep you informed of more information as it is available.
